# Google search results in OpenClaw through an MCP server

> OpenClaw has no Google SERP web search provider built in. Add Google results through an MCP server on the SerpCrypto SERP API. No KYC, pay in crypto.

OpenClaw's built-in `web_search` providers do not include a Google results API. OpenClaw can, however, run saved MCP servers and expose their tools to its agent, so the SerpCrypto MCP server adds a `google_search` tool in two commands.

**Quick answer — How do I add Google search results to OpenClaw?**

Save the **SerpCrypto** MCP server with `openclaw mcp add`, passing your API key with `--env`, then check it with `openclaw mcp doctor --probe`. OpenClaw exposes configured MCP tools in its normal coding and messaging tool profiles, so the agent gets a `google_search` tool. Each search costs 1 credit, from $0.30/1K searches; crypto, no KYC.

## Which web search providers does OpenClaw include?

OpenClaw's web tools page, read on 22 October 2026, lists these `web_search` providers: Brave, Codex Hosted Search, DeepSeek, DuckDuckGo, Exa, Firecrawl, Gemini, Grok, Kimi, MiniMax Search, Ollama Web Search, Parallel, Parallel Search (Free), Perplexity, SearXNG and Tavily. None of them is a Google results API that returns the Google page as structured data for a chosen country and language.

The same page says provider IDs are validated against those declared by bundled and installed plugin manifests, so new providers come as plugins. Writing a provider plugin is a larger job than this page covers; an MCP server needs no plugin code at all.

## How do I connect the SerpCrypto MCP server?

First set up the Python MCP server from the [MCP page](https://serpcrypto.com/docs/mcp/): one file, plus the `mcp` and `httpx` packages. Then save it in OpenClaw. OpenClaw keeps saved MCP server definitions under `mcp.servers` in its configuration; `openclaw mcp add` builds one from flags, with `--command`, `--arg` and `--env` for a server started over stdio.

`openclaw mcp doctor <name> --probe` confirms that the server starts and exposes its tools. Run it after any change to the path, the Python environment or the key.

*Register and check the server*

```bash
# 1. Save the MCP server from /docs/mcp/ in OpenClaw
openclaw mcp add serpcrypto-search \
  --command python \
  --arg /absolute/path/to/serpcrypto_mcp.py \
  --env SERPCRYPTO_API_KEY=paste-your-key-here
# 2. Check that it starts and exposes its tool
openclaw mcp doctor serpcrypto-search --probe
```

## Will the OpenClaw agent see the tool?

In the default profiles, yes. OpenClaw's MCP registry documentation states that embedded OpenClaw exposes configured MCP tools in the normal `coding` and `messaging` tool profiles. The `minimal` profile hides them, and `tools.deny: ["bundle-mcp"]` turns them off, so check those two settings if the tool does not appear.

The tool is named `google_search`, which keeps it apart from OpenClaw's own `web_search` tool. Both can stay enabled: the descriptions tell the model which one returns Google results.

## Can I manage the server from the browser?

Yes. OpenClaw's documentation describes an MCP settings page in its Control UI, where saved MCP servers can be edited and inspected. The command line and the Control UI change the same saved definitions, so use whichever you prefer.

## What will searches cost through OpenClaw?

One credit per tool call that succeeds, at the rate of your pack: $0.75/1K searches on 10,000 searches, down to $0.30/1K searches on the largest pack. 1 credit = 1 successful search request, which returns one page of results on any supported engine. A request that fails is not charged. Prepaid search credits never expire: unused searches stay on your account until you use them, so an assistant that searches only now and then does not waste a monthly quota.

Give OpenClaw its own API key. Usage per key then shows how many searches the assistant makes across your chat channels.

## OpenClaw questions

### Is there an official SerpCrypto plugin on ClawHub?

No. This page uses OpenClaw's support for saved MCP servers with a small Python server you run yourself. Nothing is published on ClawHub.

### Can I set the country and language of the results?

Yes. The `google_search` tool takes `gl` and `hl`, so the model can pick them from the conversation. See [locations](https://serpcrypto.com/docs/locations/) for the codes.

### Where does the API key live?

In the server's environment, set with `--env` when you save it, not in the Python file. If a key leaks, revoke it in the SerpCrypto dashboard and save the server again with a new one.

### Do I need KYC or a card to get a key?

No. Credits are paid in BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, with no ID, no selfie and no documents. Account-number login; email is optional.
