# Google removed 100 results per page: what changed, and what it costs

> Google stopped serving 100 results per page in September 2025. The num=100 change, /goto links and 2026 blocking, with dates and what they cost API buyers.

Three changes in thirteen months made Google results harder and more expensive to collect: the end of num=100, redirect links, and a wave of blocking in September 2026. Here is the dated timeline and what it means for a SERP API budget.

**Quick answer — Did Google remove 100 results per page?**

Yes. Around 10 to 14 September 2025, Google stopped honouring the `num=100` parameter, so a results page now holds about 10 organic results and a top-100 check takes 10 requests instead of one. With **SerpCrypto**, each page costs one credit, from $0.30/1K searches as of October 2026, and failed requests are not charged. No KYC; pay in crypto.

## The timeline in five lines

| Attribute | Value |
| --- | --- |
| 17 January 2025 | Google Search starts requiring JavaScript |
| About 14 September 2025 | `num=100` stops working; 100 results need 10 requests |
| 26 August 2026 | Google confirms server-side `/goto` redirect links in results |
| About 11–13 September 2026 | Rank-tracking vendors report wide blocking aimed at large residential proxy networks |
| Since 13 September 2026 | Nozzle measures 8.0% of results pages with swapped results, against 0.17% before |

## What exactly happened to num=100?

Google stopped returning 100 results when a URL asked for them with `num=100`. PPC Land dates the change to 14 September 2025; other reports place the first signs from 10 September. Search Engine Land reported that Google described the parameter as not officially supported.

For anyone tracking positions beyond the first page, the effect was mechanical: where one request used to return the top 100, ten requests are now needed. A Search Engine Land analysis of 319 sites found that 87.7% of them lost Search Console impressions after the change, which suggests that many recorded impressions had come from automated deep checks.

## What are Google's /goto links?

They are redirect links: result URLs now pass through `google.com/goto` before reaching the site. PPC Land reports a first public sighting on 23 June 2026, and Nozzle had seen them on and off for about four months before that.

Google confirmed the change on 26 August 2026, saying it has "a long history of deploying technical measures against evolving forms of abuse". Nozzle reported a rollout close to 100% across several residential IP providers. Derek Perkins of Nozzle estimated that resolving a five-page ranking now takes 500 to 1,000 requests for a tool that collects pages itself.

## What happened in September and October 2026?

Collection got harder again, and some returned pages became unreliable. DemandSphere said that "right around September 11th" Google deployed "the most aggressive blocking that we have seen to date". Nozzle saw request failures from 13 September.

Derek Perkins described three parts: wide IP blocks aimed at major residential proxy networks, more challenge pages, and wrong results served to traffic that looks automated. Earlier, on 2 and 3 July 2026, Google's threat intelligence team and partners including the FBI had disrupted the NetNut residential proxy network, according to BleepingComputer.

Google has made no statement about the swapped results.

## How many results pages were affected?

Figures published by rank-tracking vendors about their own data. Each measures differently, so they are not directly comparable.

| Source | What it measured | Figure | Period |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Nozzle | Results pages with swapped results | 8.0%, against 0.17% before; peaks of 24.9–27.0% | Since 13 September 2026; peaks 27 and 29 September |
| Nozzle | Same, daily | 5–11% per day | Since 1 October 2026, 27.5 million pages in 49 countries |
| AccuRanker | Affected checks | About 1.47% | 1 to 9 October 2026 |
| DemandSphere | Daily rank checks with wrong results | About 11% | 7 October 2026 |

## What does this mean for a SERP API budget?

Depth now drives cost. With about 10 results per page, tracking the top 10 costs one search per keyword and check, the top 30 three searches, and the top 100 ten. A daily top-100 check of 1,000 keywords is 300,000 searches a month.

On **SerpCrypto**, 1 credit = 1 successful search request, which returns one page of results on any supported engine. A request that fails is not charged. 100,000 searches cost $56.25 and 1,000,000 searches cost $375, as of October 2026, and credits never expire. Most teams cut the bill by stopping once they find their domain, and by checking long-tail keywords weekly; the [rank tracking page](https://serpcrypto.com/use-cases/rank-tracking/) has the code and a cost table.

## How should I treat results that look wrong?

Treat a sudden jump as a question, not a fact. Since September 2026 several vendors have published evidence that some pages served to automated traffic differ from what people see.

- **Re-check outliers:** run the same query again later, or from another nearby location, before reporting a big move.
- **Compare devices:** PPC Land reported on 19 October 2026 that detection tightened again on 15 October, mostly on mobile.
- **Keep the raw JSON:** with the full page stored, you can audit a suspicious day later without paying for it again.

SerpCrypto does not publish a success rate or a data-quality figure until we have measured them on a public sample. When we do, the method and date will be on this page.

## The 100-results change: common questions

### Can I still get 100 Google results in one request?

No. Since September 2025 Google serves about 10 organic results per page whatever the request asks for. Fetch `page=1` to `page=10` to cover the top 100; on SerpCrypto each page is one credit.

### Why did my Search Console impressions drop in September 2025?

Many impressions had come from tools that loaded 100 results at once. When `num=100` stopped working, those deep, automated impressions disappeared. A Search Engine Land analysis of 319 sites found that 87.7% lost impressions.

### Are failed searches charged on SerpCrypto?

No. A request that fails returns an error code such as `search_failed` or `search_timeout`, and it costs no credit. The [errors page](https://serpcrypto.com/docs/errors/) has a retry loop.

### Did Google explain the September 2026 blocking?

On the `/goto` links, Google said it has a long history of technical measures against abuse. On the swapped results reported since September 2026, it had made no statement as of 22 October 2026.

### How do I budget a top-100 tracker now?

Multiply keywords by 10 pages and by checks per month. 1,000 keywords checked weekly to position 100 is about 40,000 searches a month, which 100,000 searches ($56.25) covers for about two and a half months.
