Brand monitoring with a SERP API: news, web results and lookalike pages

Know when a story names your company, what ranks when people search your brand, and which unknown sites appear next to your name. One API, a few queries, a schedule.

Quick answer

How can I monitor news and search results about my brand with an API?

Schedule a few searches: Google News with period=h for new stories, and Google web search for what ranks on your brand name. SerpCrypto returns both as JSON for one credit per search, from $0.30/1K searches as of October 2026. Twenty names checked hourly in Google News is 14,400 searches a month. No KYC; pay in crypto.

Which searches should a brand monitor run?

Three kinds of searches cover most needs, each on its own schedule.

  1. News mentions, often: your company, product and executive names in quotes on Google News, with period=h for hourly checks or period=d for a daily digest.
  2. Your brand page, daily: the plain brand name on Google web search. Watch who holds the top ten, the knowledge panel and the People Also Ask questions.
  3. Risky combinations, weekly: your brand with words such as "login", "support", "refund" or "download", to spot pages that imitate you.

Keep each query fixed, so changes in the results mean something.

STATE = Path("brand-serp.json")

resp = requests.get(API, headers=HEADERS, params=params, timeout=60)
resp.raise_for_status()
hosts = [urlparse(r["link"]).netloc.lower().removeprefix("www.") for r in resp.json().get("organic_results", [])]

    if host not in before:
        flag = "" if any(host.endswith(k) for k in KNOWN) else "  <- unknown site"
        print("new in top 10:", host + flag)
STATE.write_text(json.dumps(hosts))

How do I spot sites that imitate my brand?

Look for unknown domains that rank on your brand name combined with words people use when they need help or want to log in. A new site in the top results for "yourbrand support" or "yourbrand login" deserves a manual check.

The API only shows you that a page ranks; it does not judge it. Review each new domain by hand, and if a site impersonates you, report it to the search engine, the host and the registrar. Our Acceptable Use Policy welcomes brand protection work.

What does the results page tell me about my reputation?

The first page for your brand name is what most people see before they decide to trust you. Four parts matter:

  • Top results: your own pages, reviews sites, press and forums, in the order Google shows them.
  • Top stories: news cards that appear when your name is in the news.
  • People Also Ask: the questions people ask about you, which often reveal doubts you should answer on your own site.
  • AI Overview: when Google shows one for your brand, its references list shows which pages its summary relied on.

Store these blocks daily; a change in any of them is worth a look.

How many searches does brand monitoring use?

Count queries × editions × checks. Twenty names checked hourly on Google News is 20 × 24 × 30 = 14,400 searches a month. Your brand page checked daily in 3 countries adds 90, and 10 risky combinations weekly add 40.

That whole setup is about 14,530 searches a month, which 25,000 searches ($18.75) cover for more than six weeks. A daily news digest instead of hourly checks divides the news part by 24.

Which pack suits brand monitoring?

A daily setup fits in 10,000 searches ($7.50); hourly news checks for several names need 25,000 searches or more, as of October 2026. Credits never expire.

Brand monitoring API: common questions

Can I monitor social networks with this API?

Only what search engines show about them. The API returns Google and Bing results, which can include social pages that rank. It does not read social network feeds directly.

How quickly will I see a new story?

At your first check after Google News lists it. With hourly checks and period=h, a newly listed story shows up at the next hourly run, so the delay is mostly Google's own listing time plus up to one hour.

Can I monitor several countries?

Yes. Run each query with the gl and hl of each country edition. Each edition is one search, so three countries triple the news part of the budget.

Does the API tell me if a story is positive or negative?

No. It returns headlines, snippets and links. Classify them yourself, by hand or with a language model; the AI agents page shows how to pass results to a model.

How do I pay?

Top up from $25 in BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC and buy a pack from your balance. SerpCrypto asks for no ID, no selfie and no card.
